Witch Door Blocker

Who doesn’t love decor that is also a useful object? This witch door blocker is a great craft, especially now that I live somewhere that has actual cool fall weather. I cheated with a store bought hat, but sewing a cone is not my idea of fun. Enjoy.

  • cotton or linen fabric, about a yard
  • witches hat
  • black felt
  • sewing supplies (needle, thread, etc)
  • glue
  • stuffing (I used rice and old t-shirts)

Cut out two circles with a 7.5 inch diameter. Cut out a rectangular piece 35 inches high and 18 inches wide. Sew one of the circles onto the rectangular piece on the 18 inch wide side. Sew up the sides, creating a tube. For the top, I sewed half the top circle on, as I didn’t want to ladder stitch the entire seam. Turn inside out. Fill the bottom with your tube with the heavy stuffing. I used rice, but you can use beans, or specially made poly-fill for that purpose. I stuff the rest of the tube with old t-shirts, experimenting with alternatives to buying more poly-fill.

Cut out two triangles and jack-o-lantern mouth. Glue onto the middle of the tube for the face, and then place the witch’s hat on top. Glue into place. Place by your door and enjoy!
