St. Valentine's Day

St. Valentines Apron

There’s an episode of Friends where Monica and Chandler decide to make each other homemade Valentine’s Day gifts, and then completely forget about it. Too bad Chandler didn’t have this idea, as it would have been a cute gift for chef Monica. I saw a similar apron on Pottery Barn for about $40. Between the apron, paint, and stamp, this cost about $11. Money aside, of all the holidays, handmade items on St. Valentine’s are the best as it shows thought and care. Add your initials or meaningful dates from your relationship for that extra touch.

Supplies

  • white apron
  • fabric paint
  • heart shaped stamp
  • cardboard and paper plates
  • paintbrushes
  • measuring tape

Place the apron on a flat surface, and slide the cardboard underneath the areas you intend to paint. Pour your paint onto a paper paint, and cover the stamp in paint. I’d do a few practice stamps on paper before going to the apron. My first stamp was not good, and I found brushing the paint onto the stamp yielded better results. Stamp all around the the apron, using a measuring tape to ensure even placement. For the big heart in the middle, I used a pint glass as a template for the top of the heart, and then a ruler to finish the bottom. Use a pencil to trace and then fill in with red paint. Finally, I used a toothpick to make the tiny dots. I could’ve kept going, but sometimes the hardest part when making things is knowing when to stop!
