Polyjuice Potion

We are throwing our first Halloween party this year, so of course I am already planning the food and drink for the evening. I want to have a couple of drink options, and what better for Halloween than a potion that allows you to turn into someone else? There are already quite a few recipes for Polyjuice potion online, however they are mostly geared towards kids and are basically the lime sherbet punch that is served at every baby shower in the South. (IYKYK.) Now in the books Polyjuice is described as “thick, dark mud, bubbling sluggishly,” but the Internet has decided it’s bright green. Also I do want to make something my guests will want to drink. I immediately thought of Midori liqueur, which has a beautiful radioactive green color. I decided on sparkling apple juice for my mixer, as I did want those bubbles! Lemon juice gives a needed acidic note.

Recipe:

  • 2 jiggers Midori
  • 1/2 jigger lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup of sparkling apple cider (such as Martinelli’s)

Place the Midori and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for a minute, then pour into a medium sized glass. (I used a mason jar.) Add the apple cider on top of the green mixture, and enjoy!

P.S. I think this would also be great with a sparkling wine in place of the cider, if it’s dry. Keep in mind Midori on it’s own is very sweet.
